Half day encaustic art workshop at the Solas Art gallery, Ballinamore, County Leitrim

On Saturday 25th November, the Solas art Gallery presents a half day encaustic art workshop with encaustic artist Isabelle Gaborit.

 

Are you intrigued or curious about encaustic painting, an ancient painting process using pigmented molten beeswax?
Are you art enthusiast wanting to discover a new versatile creative process in an intimate studio setting?

During this half day long workshop, you will have the opportunity to discover the fascinating art of Encaustics, an ancient painting process using molten beeswax, resins and natural pigments. This class is very popular, tick all the boxes and is designed for everyone: absolute beginners and developing artists alike, mostly people who have never practised encaustics and wish to discover this wonderfully versatile medium .

Isabelle will introduce you to the basic techniques of encaustic painting, sharing its spontaneous virtues of working with texture and colours and its versatility with building up layers. You will have the opportunity to learn easy and effective techniques in a fun and relax atmosphere and create beautiful artworks to bring home.

Cost: €50, including all materials and supports.

Class limited to 8 participants for a personal and intimate studio setting experience.

Subjects covered during the introduction class:
• Safety, ventilation, corrects working temperatures, and proper use of equipment.
• Appropriate supports and grounds, palette, brushes, colours and studio set up.
• Different ways to apply paint, fusing options.
• How to achieve a smooth/textured surface.
• Stencilling
• make your own encaustic medium and colours

 

Prerequisite:

All participants will be asked to bring materials ranging from photocopies, found papers, scraps of fabric, pictures, letters, labels, pieces of fabric, drawings, stamps, etc...Which will be included in their own works. Isabelle will also have a wide selection of images which participants will be able to use.

Please bring also an apron or painting cloths.

 

About Isabelle:

As a student Isabelle has gained a foundation in sculpture, drawing and painting at l’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Poitiers, France and graduated in 2006 with an honours degree in fine arts in Ireland. Since then she has been exhibiting her work extensively nationally and internationally, among others, Northern Ireland, China and France .She is a former member of Artspace in Galway and G126, and is now one of the founding member of Art in studios, East Clare art trail. She is also experienced in conducting group workshops and demonstrations on demand or art enthusiasts, absolute beginners and developing artists alike, wanting to discover a new versatile painting process.
