Therese Whelan Tierney & Isabelle Gaborit at Solas Art Gallery.

On Friday 27th October Solas Art Gallery is proud to present the opening of dual exhibitions from Therese Whelan Tierney and Isabelle Gaborit.

Therese Whelan Tierney, originally from Dublin, lives in Roscommon and brings this, her first solo show to Solas that concerns itself with Memories.

Therese began exploring themes for her show around old buildings in her neighbourhood and the memories inherent and imprinted within. She then began to sketch local personalities after putting out the word she was looking for sitters. She tells us “during the sketching process there was a very calm atmosphere, something extraordinary happened; they started talking to me about the things they loved or feared, their memories, their religious values or their cultures”.

Therese explores the link between shared experiences, memories and culture and conveys this through her art in a unique manner.

Isabelle Gaborit, originally from France, lives in Co. Clare and brings her exhibition titled Land, Sea and Sky to Solas using the Encaustic technique of painting; an immediate and tactile painting method using molten pigmented beeswax.

In this recent body of work, Isabelle has been compelled to explore the primal theme of light embedded in her connection to the ever changing Irish landscape.  The works act as a reflective rendition of the remarkable light value of this land composed entirely of the environment’s three most prominent physical characteristics, the Land, the Sea and the sky. As the light shift slowly through the environment, the boundaries between each become increasingly blurred, each merging into the other, all becoming Light and reflections. She strives to conjure up a sense of liminality in her paintings, where there is no separation

between Land, Sea and Sky.

Isabelle will give a half day encaustic workshop at the gallery on Tuesday Nov. 21st. See our 'News' section for further details.

The show will be opened by Louis Mc Loughlin, Artist and Chairman of the Ballinamore Community Arts Group at Friday 27th October at 7.30pm. Refreshments and nibbles as always. Opening hours: Tuesday – Saturday 10am - 6pm. Contact Ben or Gail at the gallery for any enquiries: 0719644210.
